Since joining the Design Team at Wow! Embossing Powders, Neil has been finding new uses for all their wonderful colours and embossing glitters. Their stamps have come in handy too! Here is his tag for February, which will be on the make list for January’s Craft Club as well (he won’t be at the February Craft Club as he’ll be at the NEC for the Stitches Trade Show). Full instructions follow the photo.
Here’s how to make the February tag:
Prepare an embossing template for February – instructions are in the January post.
Using the Wow! Embossing Powder ‘Brocade’ clear stamp and your clear embossing ink, stamp an image onto a tag.
You’ll now blend two colours of embossing glitter together. First start with Wow! Clear Sparkle, lightly sprinkle from about an inch from the bottom of the tag, and then cover the rest. Tap off the excess and return to the pot. Next, cover the bottom of the tag and overlap the clear sparkle with Wow! Princess Pink. Tap off the excess and return to the pot. You’ll see some of the pink mixes on the tag with the clear and so you have your blend. Heat set the glitters, and allow to cool.
Embossing glitters can be hard to see when they melt – here’s a tip: the glitter twinkles as the powder melts and stops when fully cooked. Glitters also take a little extra time to fully set, so allow to cool completely before handling.
Emboss the tag using your February embossing template. The idea is to now add Wow! Lilac Shimmer to the raised areas… it’s tricky. Two ways are possible – use an embossing pen to add ink (the letters are difficult to see), or use a pad to gently catch the raised areas and a brush to remove powder when you miss! Heat set the powder when the letters are clear. Set aside to cool.
Two ideas for making the flowers… The demo tag shows the smallest flower of Tim Holtz Tattered Floral Sizzix die cut – fold a piece of white card stock into five and put all five layers into the die cutting machine to cut out. Alternatively, use a flower stamp to stamp five flowers and cut them out after heat embossing.
Dab each flower on your embossing ink pad, add Wow! Opaque Pastel Pink and heat set. Colour in the centre of each flower with an embossing ink pen and add Wow! Opaque Pastel Yellow. Heat set. Finally add a dot in the centre and emboss with Wow! Honey.
Curl the petals up slightly and stick onto the tag with Ranger Glossy Accents.
